A futuristic $1.7 billion arena will open on Yas Island in 2029
The Emirate has officially announced plans to build a large-scale entertainment complex modeled like the Sphere in Las Vegas. It will be the first venue of its kind outside the United States.
The project is valued at 1.7 billion dollars, with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) as the investor.
The giant spherical arena will be able to hold up to 20,000 spectators. Its creators envision it as more than just a concert venue — a fully immersive space where concerts, film screenings, combat sports and large-scale brand spectacles merge with next-generation visual and audio technology.
For Abu Dhabi, the project is about more than entertainment. Officials are positioning Sphere Abu Dhabi as a statement of cultural ambition and as another attraction designed to reinforce the emirate’s role as a global creative and tourism hub.
The building’s outer shell, known as the Exosphere, is set to become one of the most recognizable screens on the planet. As in Las Vegas, the structure itself will turn into a massive LED canvas visible from across the city. But in Abu Dhabi, officials say the focus will also include showcasing the work of Emirati artists, local culture and heritage through monumental digital art installations.
