This year’s most prestigious architecture award went to China, with Liu Jiakun named the 2025 Pritzker Prize Laureate. Remarkably, every one of his acclaimed projects has been built exclusively within China, further underscoring his deep connection to the nation’s cultural and environmental landscape.
Liu spent a transformative decade in Tibet, where he immersed himself in painting, literature, and meditation. These formative experiences profoundly shaped his architectural philosophy. His designs often reflect Buddhist principles of humility and harmony, with a consistent focus on blending built forms into their natural and historical surroundings. Many of his buildings appear to dissolve into the landscape rather than dominate it.
