The agenda may also cover more balanced trade within the bloc and lower transaction costs. A high-level meeting ahead of the summit will discuss a mechanism for fast-tracking the integration of national payment systems. The main obstacle is technical interoperability: none of the member states has launched a full-fledged digital currency yet, and all are still testing individual features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>India eases rules for investors from neighbouring countries<\/strong><br>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2301992&amp;lang=1&amp;reg=48\">new rules<\/a>, the country has received 29 foreign direct investment proposals worth a combined 48.95 billion rupees ($511.5 million). Investors from land-bordering countries \u2014 China above all \u2014 may now hold non-controlling stakes of up to 10% through the automatic route, without prior government approval. The previous rules, introduced in 2020, required clearance even where such ownership was very small, a long-standing complaint among investors. The investments span information technology, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, data centres and transport services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ethiopia aims to turn Addis Ababa into Africa&#8217;s medical investment hub<\/strong><br>The plan covers specialised medicine and medical tourism as well as domestic production of pharmaceuticals, equipment and diagnostics. Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ena.et\/web\/eng\/w\/eng_9433774\">said<\/a> so while opening the 13th East Africa Healthcare Federation conference. The central theme of his address was &#171;health sovereignty&#187; \u2014 the ability to treat patients without excessive dependence on distant supply chains and to respond to epidemics independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Russia to take over the SCO chairmanship for 2027-2028<\/strong><br>Kyrgyzstan currently <a href=\"https:\/\/ria.ru\/20260828\/predsedatelstvo-2113902225.html\">chairs<\/a> the organisation and will be succeeded by Pakistan in 2026-2027, with Russia next in line. Vladimir Putin will attend and hold a series of bilateral meetings, including with Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shares in Chinese robot maker Unitree jump 600% in trading debut<\/strong><br>The world&#8217;s largest humanoid robot maker by sales <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/08\/18\/tech\/china-unitree-ipo-intl-hnk\">raised<\/a> 6.1 billion yuan ($905 million) on Shanghai&#8217;s STAR Market. The offering was oversubscribed more than 8,000 times, a record for the venue.
