The carbon footprint of the forums was calculated based on an analysis of participants\u2019 routes and modes of travel, energy consumption at the venues, catering, waste management, and other indicators. The quantitative assessment boundaries included direct emissions from stationary and mobile fuel combustion, the use of refrigerants, indirect energy emissions from electricity consumption, as well as other indirect emissions associated with water supply, waste management, the purchase of materials and food, and the provision of accommodation for participants and organizers during the preparations for and holding of the events. The approach to selecting the calculation boundaries is determined by the ins and outs of the processes involved in organizing and holding the forums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The calculations were performed in accordance with ISO 14067:2018 and confirmed by verification reports from an international accreditation body. Carbon footprint reduction was verified in compliance with ISO 14021:2016\/Amd 1:2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Various sustainable solutions were planned and implemented to reduce the carbon footprint during the preparations for the forums: logistics optimization, waste separation, energy-saving technologies, the use of natural gas-powered vehicles, as well as other measures. The residual (irreducible) carbon footprint was offset by SIBUR, which provided carbon credits in the amount corresponding to the volume of greenhouse gas emissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The transfer of the carbon credits was carried out through the Thread of Nature platform, which is operated by the Roscongress Foundation. Thread of Nature provides for transactions with carbon credits and quota fulfillment units based on the marketplace principle. As of the time of writing, SIBUR owns 12.2 million validated carbon credits, of which 5.3 million have been verified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carbon units obtained by SIBUR through the implementation of a technological climate project at the SIBUR-Neftekhim production facility were used to offset emissions from international forums. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the energy efficiency of ethylene oxide and glycol production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
