VEB.RF, DOM.RF, Russian Export Center and SME Corporation to Present a Joint Urban Development Agenda at the Forum in Sochi
The 18th annual Russian Investment Forum will be held in Sochi on 14–15 February 2019. For the first time, VEB.RF, DOM.RF, Russian Export Center and SME Corporation will participate as a joint team of development institutions. The shared agenda is based on developing cities and creating a comfortable urban environment. This will be reflected in the joint exhibition stand of these development institutions, as well as in the planned agreements’ signing with businesses and regions, in addition to the thematic discussion platforms operation. The discussion entitled ‘The Economics of Urban Comfort’, which will be held on 14 February will act as a central session of the development institutions.
“We will look at national projects through the prism of a qualitative change in life of Russian cities and development of the urban economy. This will be the keynote of the development institutions’ participation in the forum and one of the priorities of our investment agenda. Our task is to ensure that projects being implemented directly increase the quality of life for people in the cities,” said Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of VEB.RF.
At the joint stand of the development institutions, DOM.RF will present data on the development of the housing market, and on shaping up a comfortable urban environment. Representatives of DOM.RF will take part in discussions dedicated to shaping up the economy of urban comfort, increasing birth rate and life expectancy in the country. The forum will be attended by ten finalists of the ARCHITECTS.RF. The programme is implemented by DOM.RF together with Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, on the request of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation. ARCHITECTS.RF is a free professional development programme for architects, designers, urban planners, employees of municipalities and senior students of industry-specific educational institutions.
“Issues of improving the quality of urban environment and increasing the volume of housing construction are inextricably interlinked. Also, they are an important aspect of comfortable living. Today, cities vigorously compete for human capital. People need more than just square metres, they are looking a way of life, for a modern image of urban living, which forms a new city economy. Through the improvement of public spaces, we give impetus to small and medium-sized businesses, stimulate development of service economy, and increase safety,” said Alexander Plutnik, CEO of DOM.RF.
During the Forum, the SME Corporation will take part in discussions on the promotion of entrepreneurship, the effective development of urban environment, and the development of social business projects. An agreement on cooperation between the SME Corporation and Norilsk Nickel is going to be signed at the Forum. Representatives of the Corporation will also become participants in a pitch session to support high-tech innovative fast-growing gazelle companies, as well as announce the start of accepting applications for providing consolidated support measures to such companies from development institutions. Meetings with the leaders of Russian regions, representatives of the largest customers with state participation, representatives of the business community are also in plan. The presentation of the SME Business Navigator portal will be held at the stand of SME Bank on the starting day of the Forum.
Business breakfast dedicated to the export of tourism services will be the key event for the Russian Export Center at the Forum. “Export-oriented production has a direct positive influence on the qualitative change in urban environment, as it takes effect on the Russian economy. For example, export of tourism services acts as the driving force for a number of economy sectors, as well as for city infrastructure. Development of the urban environment makes it possible to increase exports of medical and educational services, since most of them are distributed within the country, not abroad. That is why increasing exports is linked to the matters of infrastructure in Russia. In addition, innovative technological solutions used in the development of smart and safe cities are the growth points of the urban environment,” said Andrey Slepnev, General Director of REC.
